The inaugural TRACE Mentorship Programme, with generous support from the Genesis Kickstart Fund, is launching a year-long no-cost mentorship for 24 female-identifying photographers over the age of 35.
About
The TRACE Mentorship, at no cost to the 24 selected mentees, will provide workshops, one-to-one mentorships, peer networking, portfolio reviews and an exhibition opportunity for photographers who are selected for the programme. Outside of an initial in-person, introductory meeting, all sessions throughout the year will be delivered online.
What
Each participant in the TRACE Mentorship programme will receive:
● One-day opening introductory, in-person, workshop with all participants to establish a network amongst the cohort
Nine online workshops throughout the year-long programme to support mentees on topics including, but not limited to:
- concept development
- writing about your work for proposals and professionally
- curation skills
- sequencing and presentation
- dissemination
● A six-session, online speaker series delivered by international experts from a wide range of opportunities and industry
● Twelve online peer review sessions to develop a network within the mentee group providing support beyond the programme
● Three online portfolio reviews with three industry experts (nine reviews total). Portfolio reviews will occur at the beginning, middle and end of the programme for participants to have a more impactful experience
● Two-day in-person event where participants will install their collective exhibition of work produced during the mentorship programme.

Who Can Apply
Applications are strongly encouraged from female photographers from under-represented groups including people who identify as black, Asian, ethnically diverse, LGBTQI+, neurodiverse, disabled, those who face gender discrimination and individuals from a lower socio-economic background.
Applicants must:
● Be aged 35 or over at the time of application deadline (9th May 2022)
● Be based in the United Kingdom
● Have not had a solo exhibition of their photographs
● Have not had a book published of their photographs
● Commit to participating in all events during the year-long mentorship programme
● Attend, in person, the introductory event on June 11, 2022 in Manchester for the entire day. Participants are responsible for paying all travel expenses
● Attend and participate in all online events throughout the year. The timetable for the sessions will be published by June 2022
● Participate and contribute work for the exhibition at the end of the mentorship programme in June 2023. Participants will be responsible for the cost of producing their work.
